A premium theme shop called PixelGrade generated discussion by pricing one of their themes at $225. A commenter couldn’t locate layout editor demonstrations. The actual reason? PixelGrade deliberately excluded a layout editor from this theme — a deliberate design choice, not an oversight.

A Genuine Misunderstanding

The commenter truly couldn’t conceive of a ThemeForest theme without an integrated layout editor, given that the marketplace hosts over 2,000 themes marketed as “Visual Composer compatible.”

Reconditioning Theme Buyers

Marketplace shoppers have been conditioned to equate theme value with low prices and maximum features.

Theme sellers can reshape these expectations through deliberate choices:

  • Demonstrate quality over quantity: Themes should function beautifully without excessive customization requirements
  • Recommend rather than bundle: Suggest compatible plugins instead of packaging them
  • Test premium pricing: Competitive prices shouldn’t undervalue the quality delivered
  • Prioritize responsive support: Intuitive design and documentation reduce support needs
